The term hybrid system is usually applied to a renewable energy system
consisting of a wind turbine and a photovoltaic (solar) power system. At
EFG, we believe a hybrid system is a complete mixture of efficiency
improving products. For instance, our first step in improving the efficiency of
a home is to improve the insulation of the home. Insulation is often the
cheapest improvement that can be made and also produces immediate
results. The next step would be to improve the efficiency of the heating and
air conditioning system. Spending money on a wind turbine or solar electric
system is fruitless if the building is heated and cooled by an inefficient
heating and AC system. Solar air and water heating packages can be
added to the home or business to reduce overall energy usage. Solar Attic
Fans and tubular skylights reduce energy costs with little investment. A truly
energy efficient home requires planning and making use of available energy.
Wind turbines are excellent renewable energy power producing products. If
the site allows, we will always suggest the use of a wind turbine of some
size. Wind turbines can be installed ranging from small 100watt turbines to
utility grade MegaWatt turbines. Not all sites are candidates for wind turbine
installations. Available space and tower height restrictions limit installation
sites.
With or without a wind turbine, solar electric power is a viable option. Solar
panel packages can be installed in many different wattage outputs. For
rooftop solar panel mounts, a clear southern exposure is needed. Panels
can be mounted on stands in any location as long as buildings or trees do
not block the southern view.
